No Market for a Queen’s Bling

A recent auction of pearls once belonging to Marie Antoinette failed to reach the reserve price at Christie’s.

The queen gave the pearls to the Countess of Sutherland as a part of a fund-raising exercise but was executed before the scheme could be enacted. The pearls have been in the family ever since.
