Birkbeck Research Seminars

Here is the programme for this term’s series of research seminars. The Francis Bacon paper on 30 Oct promises to be of particular interest to early modernists, but all of the papers look good so I thought I should post the full schedule and help publicise the series.

Oct 16th The Volkswagen Beetle as an icon in the Federal Republic
Dr. Bernhard Rieger (University College London)

Oct 30th Francis Bacon and the politics of attribution
Professor Alan Stewart (Columbia University)

Nov 13th Among the natives: tales from the field
Dr. Marybeth Hamilton (Birkbeck College)

Nov 27th Have we become dangerously obsessed with things? What history can tell us about consumption in the modern world
Professor Frank Trentmann (Birkbeck College)

Dec 11th Trauma theory and the violence of history
Professor Joanna Bourke (Birkbeck College)

Held at 6pm on alternate Thursdays in UCL Engineering 1.04, Malet Place
