Pomp and Power – Carriages as Status Symbols

To celebrate the display of the Lord Mayor’s Coach (commissioned and built in 1757) in a new gallery at the Museum of London in November 2009, the Museum will host a two-day conference on carriages as status symbols and the influence of British carriage design and manufacture. The conference is organised in conjunction with Dr Rudolf Wackernagel (Munich) who has published widely on European as well as English carriages and will be one of the conference’s keynote speakers.
Proposals for papers can be submitted to Carriage Papers.
