The celebrations of Samuel Johnson’s Tercentenary kick off today in the UK with the start of a recreation of Johnson and Garrick’s walk from Litchfield to London. A modern-day Johnson (Johnson’s recent biographer, Peter Martin) and Garrick (Nicholas Cambridge) will re-enact their journey (occasionally with shared horse). Birkbeck History Research Seminar

On 3 March, Clare Fitzpatrick will deliver a paper on ‘Belief and Scepticism: Understanding “Paranormal” Experiences in Early Modern Britain (c.1600-1750)’ as part of a series of History Research Seminars at Birkbeck.
