We are delighted to start the new term with a talk by Felipe Fernandez-Armesto entitled ‘How to be an Early Modern Emperor’,
The event will take place on 22 January at Birkbeck, room G16, Malet Street (entrance in Torrington Square) and begins at 6.30 (drinks provided).
Among other distinctions, he has won the John Carter Brown Medal, the Caird Medal of the National Maritime Museum (UK), and the Tercentenary Medal of the Society of Antiquaries of London. His publications include Columbus (1991), Civilizations (2000), Pathfinders: A Global History of Exploration (2006), and 1492. The Year the World Began (2009). His most recently published book is A Foot in the River: Why Our Lives Change – and the Limits of Evolution (2015).
